Using LifeFlix on Older macOS Versions

We’ve just launched V5 but there’s loads more still in development. Just a recap on V5 first.

What we’ve kept and made minor tweaks to improve upon

 we’ve continued to make sure that it can import from as many sources as possible, from DV camcorders to modern video files from phones, cameras, the whole lot. Includes videos from YouTube and Facebook.

it’s been made easier to do so everyone can do it without a problem. Videos can be updated to 1920 x 1080 x 1280 x 720.

 if your device happens to crash for whatever reason, anything you were working on goes into the “orphaned movies” album.

 can be exported in the original format, multiple scenes or even the entire tape can be exported plus you can make some changes during export like renaming scenes.

With V5, we’ve added some new features as well though the bulk of them will come with later updates

 we’ve heard, and we’ve delivered. Dark mode is now an option, not the only thing available, so with light mode it’ll allow for more natural depiction of the interface elements.

 These are the features that are still in development and will come with future updates to V5.

 we’ve made sure that you’re guided through the entire process, so that you know what you’re doing and how to do it. Think of it as an interactive tutorial that’ll take you from start to end. What to connect. What to click. Takes you through the entire process.

 we know a large portion of our lifeflix community use lifeflix as a storage as well as a digitisation tool so we’ve built on that, made things easier to use, more functional, more visually pleasing. 

These features will be continuously improved upon wherever possible right up until their release so that our developers can take notes from the community on what they’d like to see added to Lifeflix.

Some non-technical changes to Lifeflix with V5

Lifeflix now comes with a licence that you’d need to use it. There’s the perpetual licence which is a one time payment of $99 that will only give you access to the current version of lifeflix, not to any cool features we’ll be adding later on.

While there’s also the annual subscription option of $49 per year which gives you access to the current version plus any future versions. So, cool features are included

Apart from these, we’ve developed a new product that can be purchased and used as an add on. More details will come later, but in short, it is an 

that’ll identify all those problems that need fixing and do the fixing for you.

Lifeflix v4.2.5 simplifies digitizing and editing old tapes with intuitive tools, advanced features, and easy importing for preserving your memories.

The tapes have been restored. Quality might be mediocre at best and that’s where editing comes in

Restored footage often comes with its problems- colour inconsistencies, scratches, and sometimes even missing frames. Editing allows you to polish these clips.

Different Software for Editing Restored Footage

1. Basic Editing Software (iMovie, Windows Movie Maker)

Incredibly easy to use, making them perfect for beginners.

3. Specialized Restoration and Editing Software

Hi! We're glad you chose Lifeflix. It's packed with new features and improvements to make your digitization process smoother and more enjoyable. A comprehensive guide through the basics to the advanced features to get you on your way.

First, let’s make sure your setup meets the requirements:

Hardware: Compatible video capture device (like a DV/HDV camcorder or an analog-to-digital converter)

Head to lifeflix.com and download the latest version.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Lifeflix.

3. Once installed, open Lifeflix and you're good to go!

Step 1: Connect Your Video Capture Device

Use the right cables (like FireWire or USB) to connect your video capture device to your computer.

Turn on the device and set it to playback mode.

Open Lifeflix and Click the "Import" button.

2. Select Device and Choose your video capture device from the list.

3. Click on "Start Import". Lifeflix will begin capturing the video from your device.

Click on “Show Video Adjustments" icon on the toolbar.

The video needs to be playing for changes to be seen. Adjustments don’t show up if the video is paused since it will loop during these tweaks.

3. Non-Destructive Edits: the original clip stays unchanged. Use the "Bypass" button to see the video without the adjustments.

Go to the "Import" button and select "Import Folder."

Pick the folder with your video files. Lifeflix will import all the videos from that folder.

Finding Duplicates: Use the "Duplicate Scenes" feature.

Automatic Saving: If Lifeflix crashes, it automatically saves any unattached movies in an “Orphaned Movies” album.

Recover Work: Go to the "Orphaned Movies" album to reattach those movies.

2. Click the "Combine" button to merge them into a single file. Perfect for creating continuous videos from multiple segments!

Select your video format during import: 


 For higher quality, but it results in larger files.

Turn on batch capture to import multiple tapes without stopping.

Automatic Detection: Lifeflix will recognize when a tape stops, pauses, or rewinds, making the process easier for you.

Lifeflix handles MiniDV, HDV, Digital8 (D8), Hi-8, and Video8.

Connect a MiniDV camera to a VHS deck, then connect the camera to your Mac via FireWire. Note: This workaround may have issues and isn't officially supported.

Import Files: Go to File > Import Movie Files. Select your video files (.mov, .mp4, .m4v) to add them to your Lifeflix collection.

Lifeflix v4.2.5

LifeFlix v3.6 facilitates easy sharing via AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Notes, and Photos. Simply click "Share" to start.

LifeFlix v3.6 offers a variety of ways to share your archived footage. Share your memories with friends and family quickly by simply clicking the “Share” button. This will display a bubble with recent contacts from Apple Message and a list of all other options available to share with.

AirDrop is a quick and easy way to remotely share your footage with other Apple devices. To share with an iOS device, open the Settings and search “AirDrop” and turn on “Everyone for 10 Minutes” or “Contacts Only”. On a Mac, go to AirDrop in the Finder.

Click the AirDrop option after clicking “Share” and a window with instructions will appear. If a device with AirDrop on is detected, that device type and device owner will appear in the bubble. Select the device and it will show a loading icon. Once done, your video has been shared successfully. Click “Done” to close the window.

: The steps to enable AirDrop will vary on older versions of iOS and MacOS. Please consult 

 to find specific instructions for AirDrop for other versions.

: Clicking the Mail option from the “Share” menu will launch your Mail app with a new message ready to be composed. Create a subject line, select recipients and add a Message body. Your footage will automatically be attached to the message.

: The Messages option will launch a window that gives you the ability to compose a text message. Add any recipients from your contacts list or any phone number. Your footage will be attached to the message.
