We’ve just launched V5 but there’s loads more still in development. Just a recap on V5 first.

What we’ve kept and made minor tweaks to improve upon

 we’ve continued to make sure that it can import from as many sources as possible, from DV camcorders to modern video files from phones, cameras, the whole lot. Includes videos from YouTube and Facebook.

it’s been made easier to do so everyone can do it without a problem. Videos can be updated to 1920 x 1080 x 1280 x 720.

 if your device happens to crash for whatever reason, anything you were working on goes into the “orphaned movies” album.

 can be exported in the original format, multiple scenes or even the entire tape can be exported plus you can make some changes during export like renaming scenes.

With V5, we’ve added some new features as well though the bulk of them will come with later updates

 we’ve heard, and we’ve delivered. Dark mode is now an option, not the only thing available, so with light mode it’ll allow for more natural depiction of the interface elements.

 These are the features that are still in development and will come with future updates to V5.

 we’ve made sure that you’re guided through the entire process, so that you know what you’re doing and how to do it. Think of it as an interactive tutorial that’ll take you from start to end. What to connect. What to click. Takes you through the entire process.

 we know a large portion of our lifeflix community use lifeflix as a storage as well as a digitisation tool so we’ve built on that, made things easier to use, more functional, more visually pleasing. 

These features will be continuously improved upon wherever possible right up until their release so that our developers can take notes from the community on what they’d like to see added to Lifeflix.

Some non-technical changes to Lifeflix with V5

Lifeflix now comes with a licence that you’d need to use it. There’s the perpetual licence which is a one time payment of $99 that will only give you access to the current version of lifeflix, not to any cool features we’ll be adding later on.

While there’s also the annual subscription option of $49 per year which gives you access to the current version plus any future versions. So, cool features are included

Apart from these, we’ve developed a new product that can be purchased and used as an add on. More details will come later, but in short, it is an 

that’ll identify all those problems that need fixing and do the fixing for you.

Hi! We're glad you chose Lifeflix. It's packed with new features and improvements to make your digitization process smoother and more enjoyable. 

A comprehensive guide through the basics to the advanced features to get you on your way.

First, let’s make sure your setup meets the requirements:

: Compatible video capture device (like a DV/HDV camcorder or an analog-to-digital converter)

Head to lifeflix.com and download the latest version

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Lifeflix. 

Once installed, open Lifeflix and you're good to go!

Step 1: Connect Your Video Capture Device

Use the right cables (like FireWire or USB) to connect your video capture device to your computer.

Turn on the device and set it to playback mode.

Open Lifeflix and Click the "Import" button. 

Select Device and Choose your video capture device from the list.

Click on "Start Import". Lifeflix will begin capturing the video from your device.

Click on “Show Video Adjustments" icon on the toolbar.

Adjust any Settings:
Colour: Fix any colour issues.
Exposure: Adjust the brightness.Sharpness: Sharpen the video.
Highlights & Shadows: Improve contrast.
Vibrance: Improve the colours.

The video needs to be playing for changes to be seen. Adjustments don’t show up if the video is paused since it will loop during these tweaks.

3. Non-Destructive Edits: the original clip stays unchanged. Use the "Bypass" button to see the video without the adjustments.

Go to the "Import" button and select "Import Folder."

Pick the folder with your video files. Lifeflix will import all the videos from that folder.

Finding Duplicates: Use the "Duplicate Scenes" feature.

Automatic Saving: If Lifeflix crashes, it automatically saves any unattached movies in an “Orphaned Movies” album.

Recover Work: Go to the "Orphaned Movies" album to reattach those movies.

Click the "Combine" button to merge them into a single file. Perfect for creating continuous videos from multiple segments!

Select your video format during import: 


 For higher quality, but it results in larger files.

Turn on batch capture to import multiple tapes without stopping.

Lifeflix will recognize when a tape stops, pauses, or rewinds, making the process easier for you.

 Lifeflix handles MiniDV, HDV, Digital8 (D8), Hi-8, and Video8.

Connect a MiniDV camera to a VHS deck, then connect the camera to your Mac via FireWire. Note: This workaround may have issues and isn't officially supported.

 Go to File > Import Movie Files. Select your video files (.mov, .mp4, .m4v) to add them to your Lifeflix collection.

Before getting into the digitization process, make sure your computer meets the following system requirements so Lifeflix will run smoothly:

With these specifications, you're equipped to handle the demands of video processing and enjoy a seamless experience with Lifeflix.

: This device bridges your camcorder to your computer and is used if you’re using an USB cable.

Cables: Typically, a firewire cable and a thunderbolt-firewire adaptor if your computer doesn’t have a firewire port but if you really need to use a USB cable and AV cables (RCA or S-Video) you can do so.

Plug the AV cables into the camcorder and the USB video capture device.

Insert the USB video capture device into your computer’s USB port.

Turn on your camcorder and set it to playback mode.

Connect your camcorder to your computer using the firewire cable. If your computer doesn’t have a firewire port, you’ll need a thunderbolt-firewire adaptor.

Make sure all connections are secure to avoid disruptions during the digitization process.

With your equipment connected, it’s time to install Lifeflix on your computer. Here’s how:

Head to the Lifeflix website and download the latest version of the software.

Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install Lifeflix on your computer.

Installation is straightforward and typically takes just a few minutes.

Now that Lifeflix is installed, let’s get it connected to your camcorder.

Make sure your camcorder is connected and turned on. Lifeflix should automatically detect the device.

Here comes the exciting part-capturing your footage from tape to digital format.

Insert the tape you want to digitize into your camcorder.

Start playing the tape on your camcorder.

On Lifeflix, click the "Capture" button to start recording the video.

Watch the video as it’s being captured in real-time on Lifeflix.

When you’ve got all the footage you need, click "Stop." Lifeflix will save the video to your library.

Capturing is done in real-time so a 60-minute tape will take approximately 60 minutes to digitize.

Now that your video is digitized, it’s time to for a little editing:

In the Lifeflix library, choose the video you want to edit.

Trim: Use the trim tool to remove unwanted parts from the beginning or end of the video.

Split: Divide the video into smaller segments if necessary.

 Use the "Titles" tab to add text overlays such as names, dates, or captions to your video.

: Apply smooth transitions between clips for a professional touch.

: Fine-tune the brightness, contrast, and saturation to enhance your video’s visual quality.

Editing is where you can get creative, making your videos look polished and professional.

As you digitize more tapes, keeping everything organized will help you find what you need quickly.

: Create folders and subfolders to categorize your videos by date, event, or theme.

: Rename your videos for easier identification.

: Add tags to videos, making searches more efficient.

A well-organized library means more time enjoying your videos and less time looking for them

Lifeflix provides restoration tools to enhance the quality of your old footage. Here’s how to restore it:

: Use the stabilization tool to reduce any shakiness.

 Apply noise reduction to eliminate grains and other visual noise.

 Restore faded colours with advanced colour correction tools.

Improve audio quality by reducing background noise and adjusting volume levels.

A little restoration can make a world of difference, bringing your footage closer to its original glory.

Once your video is edited and restored, it’s time to share it with the world.

Choose your export settings (resolution, format, etc.).

Click the "Export" button to save your video to your computer.

Lifeflix lets you share directly to social media platforms or via email

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Here are solutions to some common problems

: Check that all cables are securely connected and that your camcorder is powered on. Trying a different USB port might also help

: Double-check your capture settings and make sure you’re using the highest quality settings available.

: Use the audio sync tool in Lifeflix to align the audio with the video

If you run into any issues, don’t stress. With a bit of patience, you’ll have those problems sorted out in no time but if you’re still having problems, contact Lifeflix’s helpful support team.

Any scene that is archived by LifeFlix v3.6 can be trimmed from the main interface. The playback monitor will display the footage of any selected scene and be accompanied by a timeline.

The blue bar indicates the current length of your footage. Each end of the blue bar has a marker. You can hold and drag the marker on the left side to create a new starting point for your footage. You can do the same with the marker on the right to create a new ending point. 

Once your new duration has been set, click the “Trim” button on the right to trim. When you trim your footage, it will overwrite the currently selected scene with the new trimmed duration. 

 Any scenes that have been trimmed can be identified by the trim icon from the “Scenes” area.
